Taking A Break

Hey Y'all! I'm going to be gone for a little while-Taking an online course in CS3 so I can make bigger and better with digital elements, layouts, and photos! I'm really excited about this since I've been wanting this program since it came out. My beloved Photoshop Elements 5 died on me for some reason and I was forced to take advantage of Adobe's current special savings. (Oh, my . . . such a hardship! LOL!) Only problem is: I don't know jack about Photoshop CS3. So bare with me and check back often; I hope to add new freebies as I learn. Wish me luck!

I Finished a Page!

I can hardly believe I actually finished a layout! My catalog is still not finished and it took me a long while to find the elements I wanted but here it is:

Products: BG Paper: CanDesigns Greenwich Village 02; Ephemera: Fairy Trails by Ellie Lash; SwishSwirls by TracyAnnDesigns; Alpha: Traci Reed, Treavor's Treasures; Software: Photoshop Elements 5

My little jock, Joshua, doing stunts on his bike. He's so much fun and I really have missed him this weekend. But he and his parents are having a great time on that battleship Yorktown. Kim said all the scouts are in awe of everything seaworthy!

I was over at my friend Flergs' blog and saw this layout on her slide show:

Host unlimited photos at slide.com for FREE!

Isn't it cool. I love the colors and those sweet little ones. You also need to check out her blog; she's showcasing her new designs, Psycho Magnet, that are ready for sale but on February 28 you can get them on the cheap!
She's offering a 35% discount coupon in her newsletter so sign up for that while you're there.

Oh, another place you need to check out is Vicki
Chrisman's Blog. Her work is awesome and I envy her ability to take anything and make it pretty and romantic! She's using some new rubber stamps that are to die for, check her out!

Well I need to go and check on some other favs. I'm getting a bunch done today - I'm on a roll!

Weekends

Weekends . . . I use to long for the weekends to come; I didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn and get dressed and go to work in an office. I could spend a lazy morning in bed with the kids telling me about different things that had happened to them during the week that hadn't been discussed earlier. We sometimes even had bagels and milk to munch on while we watched cartoons together on Saturday mornings. Those days have been gone so long it's a wonder this old gal can even remember them. Those children are now middle aged adults with teenagers of their own; my youngest grandchild is 8! No more little ones ;-(

Weekends aren't my favorite time anymore. I don't have access to a car during the week so on the weekends all the stuff I use to spread out over the five day week now gets dumped on Saturdays and sometimes spills over into Sundays. The only good thing is I sometimes get to see some of my grandchildren on weekends when they are not involved in sports or band or scouts or church. It doesn't happen often enough and usually I'm so tired from running errands that I seem to "zone out" during conversations with them. I talk more to my granddaughters on My Space than I do on the telephone or in person; I sometimes wonder what my life would be like without a computer (I don't want to know). This weekend my daughter, Kimberli, and her family are going on a Cub Scout weekend trip to stay on the battleship Yorktown. It's something they've been looking forward to for a while, I just hope Kim stays well while they are in the bowels of that big old ship.

I'm sorry for the ramble, I seem a bit "melancholy" today. I am going to start on a layout; I haven't finished one since the two I did for Flerg's CT call. I'm off to Photoshop!

Have a great weekend,
Liv

Uncle Wilber

Sad news for our family. My Uncle Wilber has passed away. He was 85 years old and would have celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary the day after his death! That is so awesome! Way to go Aunt Peck! Maybe you should give lessons on how to keep a man happy! We have always been proud of him and his many, many accomplishments. One of the major milepost in his life was his appointment in 1968 as The Sergeant Major of the Army. He was the second Sergeant Major to hold this post and did much for his fellow soldiers in this capacity. Even after retiring, Uncle Wilber continued to be an adviser to the Army and the office of the Presidency. His passing is felt by thousands of dedicated soldiers around the world and they have come forward with messages of sympathy and loss to the immediate family. I add my own "Bravo!" to a life well lived; if only we all could give as much of ourselves and as freely as he did.

Here is an old photo of him that was taken back in 1944 when he was a young paratrooper out of Ft. Benning, Georgia:

This is his photo that was released to the press when he was appointed SMA in 1968:

We had lots of good times that will be with me forever. He was always warm and loving to all of his family which isn't a normal characteristic in my family, I'm sorry to say. He kept close contact with my father even after Dad no longer remembered the rest of his family. My dad will be 89 in June!

Well, just wanted to share that with you. And as my grand daughter Suzy would say: "Peace Out!"

Quick Page

I have never used a quick page but I happened upon this one this morning and I couldn't resist! Isn't it beautiful? It is by a very young lady (23) who lives in Germany and her blog is: www.lisa-2006-lisa.blogspot.com

Other additions to the QP: Alpha by Ellie Lash, Love Actually Kit(alt); Bow by D L Patterson, 3 Scrapateers(alt), and font by MSWord.

This is my youngest grand daughter Tabitha when she was just turning five with her Great, Grand Aunt Agnes in 1999. Aunt Agnes isn't with us anymore but she was well loved and is really missed. She was my Grandmother's sister and she outlived all of her siblings by many many years. She was a great cook and she use to cook lunch for my father at least once a week right on up until a month before she passed away. She was truly a grand lady.

Some sad news today. We found out that my daughter's long time feline companion, Murphy, has cancer. He is seventeen years old and a real sweetheart (at least to me). He has put up with more stuff than a cat ought to, i.e.: several dogs have come into and out of his life as well as other cats, birds, hermit crabs, and a couple of
"daddy's" and children. The veterinarian says he's not in any pain and is going to make him comfortable by giving him IV fluids for a few days, on an outpatient basis. Murphy once attached a dog that he thought was going to harm me! Scared that dog silly! We still talk about that day. Here is a picture of the "old man" last April.

Here is one of him in September, 1998 when he and his mom were living with me:

We know he doesn't have much time left and we want that time to be pain free and happy, he deserves no less. My family really loves their animal companions and it tears us up to lose one. My cats and Kim's live very long lives, my CC was 19 when she passed!

Need to start my supper.

SAS February Color Challenge

Hey Y'all! I just finished a digital challenge! My very first. The challenge is with Stone Accent Studios and is the February Color Challenge by Booland Designs. We were to scrap a layout with her kit or make a kit with her colors; I made a mini kit with her colors. I hope everyone likes it; I was going to call it Spring Fling but I think that's already taken so it's just the Feb Color Challenge. (Gosh! I'm so intellectually challenged.)

Download Here

I have to go and post it to their gallery!

Help!

Hi Y'all! Just back for a second to tell you about a need in the scrapbooking community. DigiScrapDepot.com, a site where you can hook up for digital freebies is in dire need of funds to pay for a new server. If everyone in this generous community would donate a dollar or two to get them back up and running the Google Ads might pay for the server after that. Just go to their blog HERE and click on the donate button. You do not have to be a member of Paypal to donate! Keep this site up and running!

An Ultra-Mini Kit!

Alrighty, here's a really tiny sewing room kit Freebie. The tape is 8 inches long and can be used as a border or parts of a frame or any number of things. The safety pin is self-explanatory and the knotted twine can be used to "hold" keys, charms, tags, mini photos, etc. Hope you enjoy! Please send me a link to your layout if you use them and I'll leave you some love!

I'm really, really, tired today. Cooked and cleaned most of yesterday and today and feel like I can't put one foot in front of the other. This is definitely a HUGH sign of old age!

Need something to do? Go to Flergs' blog or her store and check out the new kit she's made! Stunning!

Had To Take A Few Minutes and . . .

I took a break from my catalog to read a few emails. Had to share this laugh that came with several others that I just couldn't post, but this one gave me the biggest laugh!

Have you ever asked your child a question too many times? This lady has:

My three-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training and I was on him constantly.

One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch, in between errands. It was very busy, with a full dining room.
While enjoying my taco, I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my seven-month-old daughter, she was clean.
The realized that Danny had not asked to go potty in a while.
I asked him if he needed to go, and he said "No".
I kept thinking "Oh Lord, that child has had an accident, and I don't have any clothes with me."
Then I said, "Danny, are you SURE you didn't have an accident?"
"No," he replied.
I just KNEW that he must have had an accident, because the smell was getting worse.
Soooooo, I asked one more time, "Danny did you have an accident ?
This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants, bent over, spread his cheeks and yelled
"SEE MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!"
While 30 people nearly choked to death on their tacos laughing, he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down.
An old couple made me feel better, thanking me for the best laugh they'd ever had!

Can't you just imagine this happening? Soooo funny, I just had to share! Now, back to the blasted catalog.

PS: Kim just called. She's out of surgery and on her way home! They left the largest piece in her stomach and told her to not eat for two days, just liquids, and perhaps it will pass through without her having to have surgery. She is very tired and depressed. Thank you for all your prayers.

Been Working All Day . . .

I finally gave up. Hours and hours of trying to link everything back up and still more and more things to go. I removed PSE, deleted all the catalogs, reloaded PSE and am going to work all day tomorrow on rebuilding the catalog. At last count there were 12,000+ items. Ugh! I hate to do this but there is no help for it. I tried the new A See D See thingy and I didn't care for it; Adobe's organizer that came with PSE5 is better than anything I've seen out there. Wish me luck and a back that holds out at least until I get everything reloaded and tagged.

I Messed Up AGAIN!

Okay, just a few lines to let you know what a dufuss I am. Somehow, yesterday afternoon, I lost my digital elements catalog. Yep, all 36.3+ GB! Yes it was backed up, no the restore didn't work correctly! Haven't decided if I should start from scratch and build a new catalog or just try to repair the restored mess. The irony of this is that last week I did a total redesign of the catalog and apparently didn't make a backup when it was completed. This from the lady who ALWAYS has a backup plan and a backup plan to the backup plan. I don't remember if I did or not and can't find one if I did. Does that make sense? Who knows, I'm really confusing myself now.

My daughter just called. She saw the neurologist this morning. Things aren't looking too good. They are scheduling a MRI on her spine. She is going to have an endoscopy done tomorrow to see if she has any of those "beezzers" in her stomach and lower intestine that would be causing all the stomach pain. If she has them they will be removed as they are found; we don't know how long she will have to remain in the operating room or the hospital at this point. If she doesn't have any of those things, we don't know what the next step will be to relieve her of all the pain she's been in for so long. She is so young to have to be going through so much; it has been non-ending for the last nine years. All prayers and positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your interest.

I Cannot Believe Its Saturday!

My goodness! Has it been FIVE days since I've posted? I don't know how others do it with their kids and scrapping and cleaning, cooking, etc.! Wow! Busy week but not much to show for it. Finally got some sound on this new CPU so I can watch my Podcasts and Adobe DVD. One day was spent with my great friend, Ginni. Thanks for lunch Ginni, and your time spent with me! Ginni has to have some surgery soon so I'm asking for some prayers for her surgeon and for her to get well quickly. If she doesn't heal VERY quickly, she will mess up her knee for good-Ginni just cannot stay put for more than 5 minutes at a time. Another 2 days were spent revamping my digital elements files. I just had way too many folders and files so I got rid of all the folders I could and then I did a sync between the new info and the old on my backup drive. Boring, I kept dozing off while I was typing in new names and such. I'm sorry to say that I also did a little element shopping after I revamped! You'd think over 12,000 elements and paper would be enough for anyone-I think I'm mostly a collector because I seldom get a page done.

This has been a whirlwind of the last few days for some of my online friends. Megs chose her new Creative Team designer (not me LOL!) Crystal. Flergs (aka Megan Farrow) has opened her new store with Scrapbook Graphics! You really need to go and check it out and sign up for her newsletter too (she gives you coupons and freebies). Ellie Lash (of Sugar Snap Scraps) has opened her own independent store! Please be sure and check her out too (she also does freebies and discounts). Both of these young ladies really know how to design and you cannot go wrong by purchasing their products.

I did put together a small kit for you. It really takes me a bundle of time to do these since I'm always changing my mind about what I want to include, what colors, etc. I'm just a mess of indecision! I need to get some of my online friends to rub off on me. Vicki Chrisman (This Art That Makes Me Happy) gets so much done it's unbelievable. If you keep up with her shenanigans you just have to believe she has a bunch of little elves running around doing her bidding! LOL! She makes something EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Well, here's the little kit:

I hope you find some way to use it; I was thinking, like, maybe "key to my heart" or something like that? The little chains could be for holding tags or charms too.

I need to go post some pages and list this freebie at DigiShopTalk! Have a great SUPER weekend!
